A phone tapping controversy has created intense political drama in Telangana. In the latest twist, former minister and Siddipet MLA Harish Rao was arrested outside the home of BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy in Kondapur, Hyderabad, amid rising tensions over the issue.
It started on December 4 when Huzurabad MLA Kaushik Reddy went to Banjara Hills police station to file a complaint of phone tapping by certain government officials. He and his supporters blocked the vehicle of CI Raghavender at the gate of the station when he was leaving without accepting the complaint.
A verbal argument ensued in which Kaushik Reddy alleged that the CI was biased and aligned with Congress. He threatened that the BRS government would take action in this regard. Following this, the CI accepted the complaint of Kaushik Reddy and lodged a case against him for obstruction and threat to his duties.
The Banjara Hills police registered a case against Kaushik Reddy and 20 of his supporters for causing disruption. When he came to know about the case, Harish Rao went to meet Kaushik Reddy at his residence in Kondapur, where hundreds of BRS workers had collected. The police apprehended Harish Rao and took him to the Gachibowli police station.
However, now that Kaushik Reddy and his support activists are behind bars, political tension remains.
