The AP government has to stop welfare schemes for the families of those who sell ganja. The Cabinet Sub-Committee on Narcotics Control met on Wednesday under the chairmanship of home minister Vangalapudi Anitha.
Minister Nara Lokesh said that the Anti-Narcotics Task Force has been named Eagle and instructed the officials to form Eagle committees with 10 people in schools, colleges and secretariats. It was suggested that women’s groups and ASHA workers should be involved in the Eagle committees.
Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav, Ministers Sandhya Rani and Kollu Ravindra also participated in the meeting. It has decided to bring the terms of reference of this task force and some other key decisions to the attention of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
“The government will suspend the welfare provided to the families of those who sell marijuana. It is now a war on marijuana and drugs. We need to go to the field level and take iron steps to eradicate it”, said Nara Lokesh.
The ministers appreciated that the police are doing smart work to stop marijuana cultivation in agency areas of Northern Andhra districts. Technology is being used to stop marijuana cultivation in forest areas. They are playing a game with marijuana growers with the help of drones. Cannabis crops are being identified and destroyed with the help of drones.
On the orders of CM Chandrababu, a special operation is being designed to stop marijuana cultivation with drones. Already, marijuana cultivated in 3.55 acres in Anakapalle district has been identified and destroyed with the help of drones.
Drone technology is being used to detect marijuana plants that have grown to a height of three feet. Multi-spectral cameras that take high-definition photos are being used in drones. The Narcotics Control Bureau will take the help of Google to identify marijuana cultivation. Officials said that the state government’s aim is to completely eradicate marijuana.
