YSRCP Boycotts Andhra Pradesh PAC Elections

The YSR Congress Party, on its part, declared boycotting the Public Accounts Committee elections in Andhra Pradesh over grievances with the way the government runs the election process. According to senior party leader Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, the decision was the direct fallout of the government’s refusal to follow established parliamentary traditions.

The YSRCP had nominated three candidates for the PAC elections, including Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Ramasubbareddy, and Mondithoka Arun Kumar. However, the ruling coalition submitted nine nominations, effectively ensuring that all their candidates would be elected. This left the YSRCP with only one viable candidate for the PAC, prompting the party to boycott the process entirely.

Reddy emphasized that, according to tradition, the opposition is typically given the PAC chairmanship to hold the government accountable and scrutinize its financial decisions. However, the ruling party argued that the opposition did not have enough numerical strength to take up the role, thus proceeding with the elections. Reddy criticized this move, comparing it to practices seen in non-democratic regimes, where such decisions undermine democratic traditions and transparency.
