The Andhra Pradesh coalition government is turning up the heat of investigation on incidents during the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) tenure, with an increased focus on those who circulated inflammatory social media posts over the past five years. However, the way it has conducted its investigations has invoked criticism as the high-ranking individuals remain untouched while the low-level officials are not spared to bring down. Among them is Sajjala Bhargav Reddy, head of the YSRC’s social media team.
YSR Congress leader YS Sharmila has raised questions over the government’s failure to arrest Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy, despite police identifying him as a key figure behind social media posts targeting his family members, including his mother Vijayamma and sister Sunitha. Sharmila has called for the immediate arrest of both Avinash Reddy and Sajjala Bhargav Reddy.
While Sharmila has expressed support for the government’s action against those behind the posts, she has voiced concerns about what she perceives as selective justice. According to her, only lower-profile individuals are facing consequences, while those with significant political influence are escaping scrutiny. Sharmila is adamant that the authorities should also arrest Avinash Reddy and Sajjala Bhargav Reddy without delay.
