Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut’s long-awaited biographical political drama ‘Emergency’ has finally received the green light from the Censor Board and got a release date. The film marks her second directorial venture, following Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.
After facing multiple delays, Kangana Ranaut has finally announced the release date of ‘Emergency’. Earlier, it was scheduled to release on September 6, but due to various reasons, it got delayed and finally made it to theaters, with a grand theatrical release set for January 17, 2025.
Announcing this exciting news on her social media handles, the Queen actress shared the film’s poster with the caption, “17th January 2025 – The epic saga of the nation’s most powerful woman and the moment that altered India’s destiny.”
Set during the 1970’s, ‘Emergency’ delves into the true events surrounding the period when the Emergency was declared under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi, one of the most powerful women in Indian history. The film aims to explore this critical chapter in Indian democracy.
Written and directed by Kangana, this project is also backed by Kangana Ranaut and Renu Pitti under the banner of Manikarnika Films. Kangana portrays the role of Indira Gandhi with a stellar supporting cast, including Shreyas Talpade, Anupam Kher, Bhumika Chawla, Milind Soman, Mahima Choudhary, and others in pivotal roles. GV Prakash composed the music for this flick.
