‘Kantara : Chapter 1’ is a prequel to the 2022 sensational hit and national award winning mythological action thriller Kantara, which stars Rishab Shetty as the lead protagonist and Sapthami Gowda as the heroine. The prequel was announced last year because the first installment emerged as a runaway hit after getting dubbed into multiple languages following its success in Karnataka. Made on a shoestring budget, Kantara amassed 400 Crores gross from all territories.
The prequel is targeting bigger box office milestones because of the strong buzz all over the country due to its genre and rare plotline. Rightly, the makers have locked a solid date for the prequel so that the openings will be nothing short of sensation all over the country.
On Sunday, the team announced October 2nd 2025 as the release date of Kantara : Chapter 1. As it will be a festival season because of Dussehra and also national holiday on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, there will be huge openings every where. Moreover, the long weekend will also ensure a terrific start for the film. Thalapathy Vijay’s 69th film has also targeted October 2025 release. So, it will be a big clash between these two films.
B Ajaneesh Loknath is scoring the music for the prequel and cinematographer Arvind S Kashyap is canning the shots. The film is co-written by Anirudh Mahesh and Shanil Guru. Action director Todor Lazarov, who choreographed the stunt sequences for the Oscar-winning RRR, has been roped in for the prequel. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films, Kantara A Legend: Chapter 1 will be released in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali and English.
