Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy launched the Musi River Rejuvenation Yatra on Friday from Sangem in Yadadri district’s Valigonda mandal, amidst growing opposition to the project. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister firmly declared that the project would continue regardless of any resistance, stating that even bulldozers wouldn’t halt its progress. During the event, he walked 2.5 kilometers from Sangem to Nagireddypalle along the Dharmareddy canal, with Congress leaders and supporters accompanying him. Before beginning the padyatra, CM Revanth Reddy offered prayers at Bhimalingam, a significant site located on the banks of the Musi River in Sangem.
The villagers of Sangem raised concerns regarding the ongoing issues related to the Musi river, which has been severely polluted. CM Revanth Reddy criticized the opposition, particularly the BRS, for obstructing efforts to rejuvenate the river. He highlighted the economic hardships caused by the pollution, pointing out that local products were no longer being sold and even liquor sales had dwindled. He further questioned whether fish still lived in the river, given the state of its contamination.
The Chief Minister emphasized the devastating impact the pollution of the Musi river had on local agriculture, leading to the decline of farming in the region. He also noted that livestock, such as sheep, were going unsold due to the river’s deteriorating condition. According to CM Revanth Reddy, the pollution has caused irreversible damage to the nearby towns and villages.
In addition to addressing the Musi rejuvenation issue, CM Revanth Reddy accused BRS leaders of misappropriating ₹1 lakh crore through the Kaleshwaram project and rejected any claims of corruption on his part or his party. He made it clear that unlike the BRS leadership, they would not indulge in corruption.
Looking ahead, CM Revanth Reddy assured the people that the Musi River rejuvenation project would be completed within the next 30 days. He also announced plans for a padyatra, which he intends to begin in the first week of January.
The Musi Rejuvenation Yatra saw active participation from various Congress leaders, including Ministers Tummala Nageshwara Rao, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Konda Surekha. Thousands of Congress workers joined the Chief Minister in walking for a cleaner and healthier Musi River, making the event a massive show of support for the project.
