Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu made it clear that Polavaram Project should be completed by March, 2028 by overcoming every problem on its way. He reviewed priority projects including Polavaram at the Velagapudi Secretariat here on Tuesday. Officials explained the work undertaken in Polavaram after the coalition government came to power.
He was informed about the progress in the Earth Cum Rock Fill (ECRF) Dam Gap-2 work. He said that a suitable situation has been created for the construction of the diaphragm wall with dewatering. He said that the new wall has to be built with a length of 1,396 meters.
Chief Minister also explained that clarity will be given on the construction work of the wall and ECRF dam in the workshop to be held in the project area from Wednesday. The CM suggested that discussions be held with the Water Board and approval should be sought to construct both in parallel.
Construction companies have revealed that if the construction work of the diaphragm wall starts in January, it will take exactly a year to complete. They said that if the ECRF dam is started immediately, it will take two years to complete. If both are carried out in parallel, the work will be completed by July 2027.
If they are carried out separately, the work will be completed by March 2028. However, the CM made it clear that along with completing the work quickly, quality is also very important. Officials said that 77 percent of the Polavaram left canal work has been completed so far. Tenders have been called for works worth Rs. 960 crore.
Meanwhile, the CM ordered the work of the Chintalapudi lift irrigation project to be expedited. Officials explained that Rs. 2,463 crore will have to be spent to irrigate 3 lakh acres. Officials said that work worth Rs. 2,200 crore is still pending in the Veligonda project.
