The theatrical trailer of Varun Tej’s upcoming period drama Matka is out on Saturday morning and it promises a captivating thriller set in the backdrop of crime history. The story is inspired by real-life incidents in the life of the notorious punter Ratan Khatri who was hailed as ‘Matka King’ in the gambling world during 1950s.
The three minute trailer offers a glimpse into Varun Tej’s multiple shades and the premise of Matka. The action-packed trailer introduces Varun as a ring master who is driven by greed and ambition to make money by hook or crook. Matka is all about the lead protagonist’s meteoric rise from acute poverty to filthy rich despite resentment and warning from her wife played by Meenakshii Chaudhary over the consequences of taking the wrong path to make money.
The trailer has it all. There is drama, emotion and action packed into the period set-up with Varun Tej set to deliver his career best performance in multiple shades. He shines effortlessly in the negative character as a bad guy and packs a punch with his impactful dialogue delivery. He claims that the nature is balanced by both the do-gooders and the wrongdoers. His makeover is simply terrific and mannerisms are absolutely brutal.
Directed Karuna Kumar, who dished out a raw and rustic entertainer with ‘Palasa’ film, seems to have readied an intense and compelling action drama by extracting Varun Tej’s power-packed performance. Varun is supported by Naveen Chandra, Ajay Ghosh and Kannada Kishore. Nora Fatehi as croupier adds glamour quotient to the period drama.
GV Prakash unpacks a scintillating score to heighten the transition of Varun Tej’s character in the film. His score giving great bit of intensity to the action episodes. The rest of the technical values are promising.
