Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu expressed his anger that it was the Jaganmohan Reddy’s government that destroyed the Polavaram project. He alleged that letters were written to the Center during Jagan’s tenure to reduce the height of the project to 41.15 meters.
He reminded that the YSRCP government has repeatedly mentioned the height of 41.15 meters in the letters written to the Polavaram Project Authority and Central Hydropower Department. He criticized the Jagan government for leaving the Polavaram diaphragm wall to the flood water to collapse.
He lamented that Jagan had started a smear campaign on Polavaram hill to divert the matter. He asserted that the state government is committed to the height of the Polavaram project at 45.72 meters. He said that the water will be kept at that level and the construction of the project will be completed.
The Minister said that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has directed the representatives of insurance companies and government officials to complete the pending applications regarding the Budameru flood victims within 15 days. On Wednesday, the CM reviewed the compensation distributed to the victims with the officials at the Secretariat.
A video conference was also held with the Collectors of the flood affected districts and the situation of those districts was reviewed. He said that a total of 4,21,698 people have been given financial assistance of Rs.625 crores. He explained that only 70 people have not yet received the compensation and that is because their bank accounts are not active and another 200 applications are still under consideration.
CM Chandrababu assured that they are trying to provide help to everyone who deserves it. He explained that government assistance will reach the last victim. The CM expressed his displeasure over the fact that 262 insurance payment applications for flood-damaged motorists in NTR district are still pending.
The representatives of the insurance companies have given clear instructions to the officials to settle all the pending claim applications within 15 days and deposit the insurance amount in the victim’s account. He ordered that measures be taken on a war footing towards a permanent solution without the risk of flooding in Vijayawada in the future.
