Noted artist calls films critics as Parasites, rakes huge controversy

Tollywood film critics often make headlines for raising controversial questions during media interactions with Telugu artists. Now, they got a taste of their own medicine from noted Telugu character artist Srikanth Iyengar who is quite familiar for his impactful roles in numerous films.

Srikanth Iyengar played a crucial role in the recent outing ‘Pottel’, a rural drama which deals with oppression and caste politics in villages. Written and directed by Sahit Mothkuri, the film presents a tale of how education is an essential tool to fight oppression which in turn can pave the way for better healthcare and lifestyle.

Pottel garnered below par reviews and many critics have called the weak narration and excessive melodrama as the liabilities for the film. Irked with these reviews, Srikanth castigated Telugu movie critics for their harsh reviews and called them bloody parasites. He wanted the industry to make a united effort and stop these critics from reviewing films.

Director Sahit faced similar criticism during the film’s success meet, where he graciously responded to media questions. However, Srikanth’s outburst sparked debate on the role of film critics and the responsibility that comes with reviewing movies.

“Most of these reviewers don’t have the slightest idea about filmmaking, but come and review our movies. They don’t know the struggle and hard work that goes into making a film,” Srikanth said. He expressed his frustration with reviewers who lack common sense and fail to understand the effort that goes into filmmaking.

Srikanth’s harsh comments sparked outrage from critics association of Tollywood. Reportedly, a complaint has been lodged with Movie Artists Association president Manchu Vishnu over these remarks. Meanwhile, Tollywood media personnel decided to boycott his films until he tenders a public apology.
