AP to Offer Free Gas Cylinders for Women from Diwali

The Andhra Pradesh government has stepped up preparations to launch its much-discussed free gas cylinder scheme that is the poll alliance partners and candidates’ election plank. Today, the state’s Minister for Consumer Affairs, Manohar, clarified the new plan and the commencement date of the scheme along with the eligibility criteria and terms. The minister also stressed that this essentially proofs the intentions of the government based on its election promises and provides important benefits to the people in the state.

Coming out during the Diwali festival this year, the free gas cylinder scheme is one of the ‘Super Six’ promises of the alliance. Under this scheme, each household will be given three free gas cylinders per year. Minister N. Manohar was confident that the program will go a long way in giving substantial relief to families as the government had earlier stated on the free gas cylinders offer to give three cylinders per annum to specific categories of beneficiaries.

The minister also said that the scheme to empower the women would annual financial implication of about ₹3,000 crores in the state. The proposal will be taken back to the Cabinet as a meeting and get the nod. However the government believes in restoring what was promised by the Chief Minister design Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan. This free gas cylinder distribution is also in fulfillment of the coalition government pledged under the ‘Super Six’ election agenda.
