A day after taking keys from Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and vacating her baggage, the Public Works Department (PWD) has officially allocated the 6 Flag Staff Road Bungalow, also known as the Chief Minister’s residence, to her.
Officials said they had issued her the allotment letter after completing the inventory process. “Now, she has to accept the offer and complete the process of allotment. After which, she can move in again,” they said. This bungalow was previously occupied by former CM Arvind Kejriwal, who vacated it following his resignation.
Earlier, the CM had accused the BJP of “capturing” the residence. “BJP ko Bungalow Mubarak” — happy to work from the streets and serve Delhiites she said after vacating the premises. On Thursday, AAP shared a video and photos of Atishi working and signing files while sitting among a pile of packed cartons and cardboard boxes.
AAP has accused the BJP of forcing Kejriwal to vacate, while the BJP claims the bungalow was occupied without proper allotment. The Chief Minister’s Office had requested its allotment to Atishi, but her existing Mathura Road residence must be surrendered first.
Earlier on Friday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) shared images showing Atishi signing files at her Kalkaji residence surrounded by packed cartons of her belongings. This came a day after the party claimed she was made to “forcibly vacate” the 6, Flag Staff Road bungalow in the national capital.
Posting the images on X, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh lashed out at the BJP, saying it cannot take away Atishi’s commitment to work for the people of Delhi. He also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “throwing away” a woman chief minister’s belongings from her “residence” during the ongoing Navratri festival. The Rajya Sabha MP accused the BJP of trying to “forcibly capture” the “chief minister’s residence”.
The property has become the centre of a political storm, with Kejriwal’s swift departure followed by Atishi’s temporary occupation. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the Lieutenant Governor (LG), acting under pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), of forcing Atishi to vacate the bungalow. The BJP claimed that the property was occupied by Atishi without proper allotment.
