Actress Rakul Preet Singh slammed Telangana Minister Konda Surekha for making defamatory remarks about her. The actress strongly criticized the minister for using her name in a melacious way to gain political mileage.
Earlier on Wednesday, during a press event, Konda Surrekha accused politician KT Rama Rao of being a drug addict and organizing rave parties, introducing drugs to many actresses. She further blamed that KTR was the reason for the separation of Tollywood’s ex-star couple Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. She also alleged that many actresses, including Rakul Preet Singh, left their film careers and married early due to KTR’s actions.
In response, Rakul Preet Singh took a stand for her and posted an official statement on her social media. In her statement, she wrote, “Telugu Film Industry is known worldwide for its creativity and professionalism. I’ve had a great journey in this beautiful industry and still very much connected. It pains to hear such baseless and vicious rumours being spread about the women of this fraternity. What’s more disheartening is the fact that this is being done by another woman who’s supposedly in a very responsible position. For the sake of dignity, we chose to remain silent but it is misconstrued as our weakness.”
She further added, “I am absolutely apolitical and have nothing to do with any person/political party, whatsoever. I urge to stop using my name in a melicious way to gain political mileage. Artists and creative personalities should be kept out of political slugfest and their names should not be used to grab headlines by linking them with fictitious stories.”
Many top Tollywood celebrities expressed their support and lashed out on Telangana Minister Surekha for her insensitive comments, adding their voices to the demand for respect and accountability.
