Sharmila Says confident Congress To Gain power By 2019, But Not In CM Race

APCC president YS Sharmila asserted that she has no ambitions of becoming Chief Minister of the state, but only targeted party leader Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister of the country. She also expressed confidence that the Congress will come to power in the state by 2029. Speaking at the Pradesh Congress Committee working committee meeting, she recalled that even her father Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s ambition was also to see him as the Prime Minister.

She reminded that they can get Special Status to Andhra Pradesh only if Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister. Moreover, she said that only Rahul Gandhi can fulfill all the bifurcation issues. Referring to her political journey, she said that she had never intended to enter politics, but circumstances forced her to take up political tasks.

Sharmila said that her struggle in Telangana was crucial to bring the Congress to power and now she takes up party responsibilities in Andhra Pradesh only realizing the need for the party to come to power in the state. “Otherwise I could have settled with a Rajya Sabha seat or some other party positions elsewhere”, she added.

She also recalled that her father also strengthened the Congress party in the state by merging Congress (Reddy) into Congress (Indira) and later he became chief minister. Likewise, she said that she had merged YSR Telangana Party into Congress only realizing political necessities.

She admitted that presently Congress is at the bottom of the state political stage and needs to climb a long way to ensure the party emerges as a key player in the state politics. For which, she urged all the party leaders to make a combined effort. ‘If each leader catches one step, it may not be a big deal to reach the top of the hill very soon’, she added.

She that that if every leader of the Congress party works hard,  many miracles can be done in the next five years. “They have two goals in front of them, one is to strengthen the party and the second is to stand up politically”, she added. Sharmila asserted that the survival of the Congress party is very necessary for the development of the state. She accused that Babu, Jagan and Pawan are turning to be slaves of the BJP at the cost of the interests of the state.
