YCP Leaders Nowhere Seen In Flood Relief Activities

The opposition YCP leaders claim that though they lost power, still they have support of 40 percent of people and demand `Leader of Opposition’ status to their supreme leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy, though their party was confined to 11 MLAs in the assembly.

But, when the people in and around Vijayawada have been suffering from unprecedented flood havoc, no leader is seen anywhere in relief activities. Though all sections are coming forward to contribute their bit for relief activities, YCP Corporators, former MLAs and other leaders are not even coming out to console the victims, except one or two people seen on their own.

The city of Vijayawada was devastated by the Budameru floods and half of the city’s population was flooded. People on the other side of Vijayawada city were hit by Krishna river. As the Krishna flood receded, they all breathed a sigh of relief within two or three days, but the Budameru problem did not come to an end. Village after village has been flooded for a week.

In many divisions of Vijayawada city, flood water is still two to three feet high. The flood flow is not receding. Even if the flood level subsides, the waste water used in many parts of the city should go into the Budameru through the outfall channels through the drains. Due to the flood flow from the top of Budameru, the flood in the city is not going down.

Millions of people were left homeless and forced to survive. YCP is the ruling party in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. Until yesterday YSP was in power in Vijayawada West and Central constituencies as well as in Mylavaram. But surprisingly no YCP leader is seen among people.

Regardless of politics, the leaders who are supposed to participate in the flood relief operations are running away from the people. Two days ago, YCP president Jaganmohan Reddy visited Vijayawada’s Old Rajarajeswaripet. Vijayawada West candidate Asif along with some corporators accompanied Jagan.

Volunteers who worked in the previous government were among the flood victims visited by Jagan. Local leaders have made advance arrangements for Jagan to talk to them. Jagan spent about an hour with the victims in the flood-affected area.

Local corporators were not available to the public after the flood inundated Vijayawada West Constituency and Central Constituency from last Sunday morning. Some leaders remained there until Jagan’s visit on Thursday.

Only the government administration, voluntary organizations and local youth tried to support the victims. Moreover, many of the key YCP leaders do not dare to come out for fear of arrest. Cases have been registered against many people in the attack on TDP office. Several other leaders are now fearing to identify themselves as YCP publicly.
