Vijayawada city Recovering From Floods Havoc, Budameru slowly Receding

As Budameru flood is slowly receding and water flow in Krishna river drastically receded to 3.16 lakh cusecs, the Vijayawada city is recovering from floods havoc. Around 80 percent of Ajit Singh Nagar, Payakapuram and other areas, which were submerged in 5 to 8 feet of flood water due to the inundation of Budameru, have survived the flood.

Authorities are restoring power supply in places where the flood water has receded. Special attention was paid to sanitation in flood prone areas. Sanitation works are being done on a war footing. 3454 workers and 450 public health personnel are being used for these works under Vijayawada Municipal Corporation.

Along with them, 5889 workers from other municipalities were brought into the field. However, due to the accumulation of mud in the houses, it is difficult to clean it. Observing this situation, the officials simultaneously brought fire engines to the field. About 48 fire engines have been brought from different parts of the state. Through them, the mud and sewage that have reached the streets and houses are being removed.

About 60,000 houses were completely flooded and it was estimated that the damage would be Rs.600 crores. This is only residential property damage. It is estimated that each family has lost property worth at least Rs. 1 lakh.

The government has said that 32 people have died due to heavy rains and floods across the state, of which 24 people have died in NTR district alone. Seven people died in Guntur district and one died in Palnadu district. It said that 1,69,370 acres of crops and 18,424 acres of horticultural crops were damaged. It is said that 2.34 lakh farmers have lost due to these floods.

It has been revealed that 60,000 chickens and 222 cattle have died. 22 electricity sub-stations were damaged due to floods and 3973 kilometers of roads were damaged. It is said that 78 ponds and canals have been damaged.

50 NDRF and SDRF teams have reached the field, six helicopters and 228 boats are working to help the flood victims. It said that 317 yards of swimmers were fielded.
