Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is also acting as the Chief of Pradesh Congress Committee, a post which he has been holding since 2021 July. As per the party’s policy, no member will have two posts and continuation of CM Revanth as TPCC chief is just a formality before his successor takes up the mantle.
The high command has been mulling over the replacement of Revanth Reddy for quite some time now. Several deliberations over finding a suitable leader to replace Revanth have already taken place. Revanth Reddy, Mallu Bhatti Vikrama and Uttam Kumar Reddy held consultations with Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, Telangana-in-charge Deepdas Munsi and party president Mallikarjun Karge and recommended a few names for this prestigious post.
Reportedly, MLC B. Mahesh Kumar Goud is the forerunner for this post and the party leadership is inclined towards finalising him very soon. The Congress party wants to woo the BC community voters and zeroed in Mahesh Kumar Goud for the post of TPCC chief. Others who are in the fray are senior leader Madhu Yashki Goud, Balaram Naik and Dharapuri Adluri Lakshman.
As BCs constitute more than 50 percent of the population, with Gouds being a major caste among the BCs, the state leaders of the party believe that Mahesh Kumar Goud might become the Congress high command’s choice.
The Congress high command has also given green signal of the cabinet expansion as per reliable sources. Though no date has been fixed it might take place in the first week of September. As there are six vacancies in the cabinet, Revanth Reddy is taking a call on whether to fill all of them or leave a couple of berths vacant for future exigencies.
