Telangana state government is considering banning Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s film `Emergency’, scheduled to be released on September 6, world-wise. The film is based on the Indian Emergency which lasted from June 25, 1975 to 1977 during the reign of late former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Coming in the background of a political drama, Kangana Ranaut is playing the role of Indira Gandhi. The makers have announced that this film, which should have already been released before the elections, will be released globally on September 6 without giving any chance to controversies.
As the release date approaches, the news that there is a possibility of ban in Telangana is coming to the fore. Government advisor Mohammad Ali Shabbir said that the government will hold legal consultations on the release of the movie ‘Emergency’ movie and discuss the issue of ban.
A group of representatives of Telangana Sikh Society led by former IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon asked Shabbir to ban the emergency film release. Shabbir said in a statement that an 18-member delegation has submitted a representation expressing concern that the film has been shot in a way that denigrates the Sikh community.
They have alleged that the film portrays Sikhs as extremists and anti-nationals, which is offensive and tarnishes the image of the community. Mohammad Ali Shabbir said that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has assured the leaders of the Sikh community that the state government will look into this matter.
Shabbir requested the Chief Minister to look into the matter of banning the film in Telangana. It is learned that Shabbir Ali, who met CM Revanth Reddy on this matter, said that the Chief Minister will take a decision on the release of the film after taking legal advice.
It is known that many important developments took place during the Emergency, including the suspension of civil rights and the arrest of Indira Gandhi’s opponents. Popular Bollywood Producer- Director Anupam Kher is playing the role of `Lok Nayak’ Jayaprakash Narayan, who stands against Indira Gandhi during the emergency.
The film is jointly produced by Renu Pitti and Kangana Ranaut under Kangana’s home banner Manikarnika Films. GV Prakash Kumar is providing music and background score for this film.
