Vijayawada, Visakha Metro Rail projects DPRs Ready

After the YS Jaganmohan Reddy government shelved the proposals for Metro Rail facility in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam cities, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu restored his attempts and directed the officials to soon send DPRs for these two projects to the Center for its approval.

Officials have prepared DPRs for Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam metro rail projects in the state to be undertaken in two phases. As per AP Reorganization Act, the center has to provide financial assistance for these two projects.

Chandrababu directed that the estimates related to phase one of these two projects should be sent to the central government as soon as possible. However, the Center has four types of proposals regarding the construction of metro

Although Vijayawada does not need a metro train as of now, the government has decided to take up the construction of key metro projects keeping in mind the growing population in the next 10 years. The CM said that the whole world depends on metro rail for traffic control and Vijayawada will need a metro according to the growing population.

In the first phase of Vijayawada Metro, 25.95 km from Vijayawada Pandit Nehru Bus Station to Gannavaram Airport and 12.45 km from Bus Stand to Penamalur will be constructed. According to the latest estimates, the total construction cost of 38.40 km in the first phase will be Rs.11,009 crores.

In the second phase, the DPR has been designed to construct a total length of 27.80 km from Pandit Nehru Bus Station to Amaravati Capital. It is estimated that this will cost Rs. 14,121 crores. It is estimated that the total cost of the Vijayawada Metro project, which will be built in two phases for a total length of 66.20 km, will be Rs. 25,130 crores.

A project report has been prepared for the construction of a metro in four corridors in Visakhapatnam also in two phases. In the first phase, the first corridor of 34.40 km from Steel Plant to Kommadi, the second corridor of 5.07 km from Gurdwara to Old Post Office, and the third corridor of 6.75 km from Tadichetla Palem to China Walther will be constructed.

In the first phase, the metro will be taken up in three corridors for a total length of 46.23 km. In the second phase, a 30.67 km metro will be constructed from Kommadi to Bhogapuram Airport. It has been estimated that the construction of the metro project of 76.90 kilometers in Visakha will cost Rs. 11,987 crores in the first phase and Rs. 5,734 crores in the second phase, totaling Rs. 17,232 crores.
