The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA) authorities on Saturday started demolishing ‘N Convention’ at Madhapur for allegedly constructing the facility in the FTL area of lake at Madhapur.
HYDRA officials have been focusing on illegal constructions in Greater Hyderabad and demolishing several of such constructions, which has been raising huge political uproar. Former minister and MLA Danam Nagender recently fired against HYDRA officials for giving notice for his building.
The premises is reportedly owned by Tollywood celebrity Nagarjuna. Accompanied by a police contingent, the HYDRA authorities arrived at the spot in early hours of the day and started the demolition exercise.The structure was allegedly built unauthorisedly in the buffer area of Thammidikunta lake at Khanamet.
A few days ago, HYDRA received a complaint against N Convention Center regarding Nagarjuna. There was a complaint that Nagarjuna had built N Convention Center on three acres encroaching on Thummidi pond. As a result, the officials who conducted the investigation concluded that it was an encroached place and started the demolition from the early hours of Saturday morning.
A few days ago, Hydra Commissioner AV Ranganathan made a key statement on illegal constructions. They said that they will seize the ponds and demolish all the illegally constructed buildings. As a result, Hydra received a complaint that Tammidi pond in Madhapur was occupied and N Convention was built on three and a half acres of land. As a result, the authorities started to demolish the N Convention this morning.
Once the city of Hyderabad was full of ponds. But many ponds in the city have been encroached in the name of city development. In this order, the National Remote Sensing Center has prepared a report on the condition of the ponds in the city limits for 44 years i.e. from 1979 to 2023.
