India’s Neeraj Chopra fell short of retaining his gold medal at the Paris Olympics, securing silver in the men’s javelin throw final. Chopra’s best throw was 89.45 meters, achieved in his second attempt. Despite high expectations following his gold medal win at the Tokyo Olympics, Chopra fouled five of his six attempts, leaving him unable to surpass the 90-meter mark. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem clinched gold with a record-setting throw of 92.97 meters, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters won bronze with 88.54 meters.
Chopra’s silver medal marks his second consecutive Olympic medal, adding to his gold from Tokyo. This achievement places him among elite Indian athletes who have won multiple Olympic medals, including PV Sindhu, Manu Bhaker, and Sushil Kumar. Nadeem’s victory also represents Pakistan’s first-ever gold medal in athletics, making the competition a significant milestone for both nations.
