YCP fielding Botsa From Visakha MLC polls

The YCP leadership has finalized the name of former minister and key leader from the North East region of the state Botsa Satyanarayana as its candidate in the ensuing  MLC elections from the combined Visakhapatnam district local bodies constituency. The elections are scheduled to be held on August 30.

YCP chief and former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has announced selection of his candidature by the party after  following a meeting held at the camp office with party leaders from the district.

During the meeting, Jagan Mohan Reddy consulted with the party leaders, including MLAs, MLCs, and the contested  candidates for Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in recent elections from the combined  Visakhapatnam District.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy emphasized the importance of unity and coordination among the party leaders. He highlighted the significant majority held by the YSRCP in the local bodies of the Visakhapatnam district, cautioning against potential unethical practices by the ruling party.

The YCP chief called on all party leaders to work cohesively and face any challenges posed by the opposition. He stressed the need for effective coordination committees to ensure a successful campaign.

The election is needed due to the resignation of Vamshi Krishna Srinivas, who had won as YCP candidate in the 2022 polls unanimously, but joined Jana Sena party just before assembly elections. After the YCP leadership complained against him stating he had defected into Jana Sena, the Legislative Council Chairman disqualified him.

Though YCP is having two third majority among the electorate, as the TDP is attempting to engineer large scale defections to capture this seat, Jaganmohan Reddy seems to have chosen Botsa Sathyanarayana as a potential candidate who can face such challenges.

The Visakha district Collector, who is returning officer for the by-election, will issue notification on August 6 and he will receive nominations till August 13. After the polling on August 30, the counting of votes will take place on September 3.

The Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, Zilla Praja Parishad and Mandal Praja Parishad members of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli and Alluri Sitaramaraju districts of the joint Visakhapatnam district will exercise their right to vote in the MLC elections.
