Senior politician and Congress leader D. Srinivas, who served as Member of Rajyasabha from Telangana, passed away in the wee hours of Saturday due to heart attack at his residence in Hyderabad. His family informed that Srinivas has been suffering from age related ailments from many days. He was born in 1948 on September 27th.
Srinivas is a seasoned politician of Congress party who served as state minister of united Andhra Pradesh in YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s government. He won as MLA three times in 1989, 1999 and 2004 and served as minister for Higher Education and Intermediate Education.
Srinivas also worked with different portfolios in the State Cabinet of Andhra Pradesh. He played a key role to bring back the Congress Party into the government in 2004 and 2009. He is a nephew of former finance minister Argul Rajaram of A.P. State. Srinivas lost the elections in 2009, 2010 (Bye- election) and 2012 to BJP and 2014 to BRS PARTY, respectively.
After the bifurcation of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh, Srinivas joined BRS and secured Rajyasabha seat. Later, he again joined the Congress party. His elder son Sanjay is ex-Mayor of Nizamabad. His younger son Arvind Dharmapuri is a businessman and Member of Parliament of Nizamabad from Bharatiya Janata Party.
