Just ahead of elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) gave a big jolt to Jana Sena party as it was recognised as a registered party and issued an order allotting the glass symbol as a free symbol for the ensuing elections. This was stated by ECI in a gazette notification.
The ECI on Tuesday released the list of recognized national and regional parties and non-recognised parties. According to ECI’s latest notification, Jana Sena has been recognized as a registered party while YCP and TDP are among the recognized parties in Andhra Pradesh.
ECI has allotted a fan symbol to YCP and cycle symbol to TDP. But assigned the `glass’, a free symbol to the Janasena. It makes sense that ECI did not recognize Jana Sena as a regional party.
It seems that Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is discussing this matter with legal experts. The party’s legal cell announced in January that the ECI has allotted the Jana Sena Glass Tumbler symbol to them and their central office has received a communication to this effect from ECI through e-mail.
At that time, Jana Sena announced that the ECI had ordered the State Election Commission to allot glass symbols to the candidates of the Jana Sena party in the general elections. In the 2019 general elections and Telangana assembly elections also, Jana Sena candidates contested on the glass symbol.
The party has announced that this time too the Jana Sena candidates will contest on the glass symbol. But recently, confusion arose with the inclusion of the Glass mark in the free symbol list. As a result, where Jana Sena is not in the contest, the glass symbol can be allotted to other independent candidates.
This will affect the chances of victory of the alliance parties along with the Jana Sena. Jana Sena legal team is likely to move this matter with the ECI.
