The Supreme Court bench led by Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Deepankar Datta came down heavily on the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the inordinate delay in completing the inquiries into the disproportionate assets cases of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Two separate petitions filed by rebel YSRCP MP Raghurama Krishna Raju to immediately cancel the bail of Jagan Mohan Reddy and also to transfer his cases out of the jurisdiction of Telugu States came up for hearing today in the Supreme Court.
The apex court rapped the CBI for not making any significant headway in its investigation relating to this case and also questioned what is the reason for such a long delay.
On behalf of the CBI, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju told the court that the discharge petitions are causing delay. A bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta said that the trial should not be delayed for political reasons.
Justice Sanjeev Khanna made it clear that there should be no delay in the investigation due to the reasons of being a political leader and the Chief Minister. The Supreme Court has made it clear that it will take up the investigation of the cancellation of bail and the transfer of the case from Telangana to another state.
The bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta ordered CBI that an affidavit be filed within four weeks and the investigation should be completed quickly. The next hearing was adjourned to August.
