Former Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao expressed his grief that 200 farmers committed suicide during the 100 days of Congress rule in Telangana. He wondered why the state of Telangana, which has grown to the number one level in the country in terms of grain production, is now suffering from drying up of crops.
He blamed the inefficient Congress government as the reason for the drought conditions in the state. On Sunday, KCR visited many mandals of Janagama and Suryapet districts, examined the dried crops and consoling the farmers.
He reminded that Telangana rose to the number one level in the country in grain production during the BRS government. But, he deplored that within 100 days of Congress coming to power, irrigation water or crops were drying up. He said that crops have dried up in lakhs of acres without water or electricity.
KCR alleged that farmers who planted their crops believing the government promise that would give water first are now suffering as crops are drying up due to lack of irrigation. He expressed his concern that the crops have dried up and the farmers are crying in many places, they have lost their investment and they are begging for adequate compensation.
KCR said that before BRS came to power, 30, 40 lakh tonnes of grain was produced annually in Telangana, but later the production of grain has crossed 3 crore tonnes. He said that Telangana has become a competitor to Punjab state in grain production with farmer welfare policies.
He asked why such a prosperous state has come to this situation now? Who is responsible for this? Where is the error? KCR asked the people to think about why there is a scarcity of drinking water in the states that provided water to every house through Mission Bhagiratha?
He said that no water tankers were seen anywhere during the BRS government. But now Hyderabad city also has to resort to water tankers.
“During the tenure of our government, we have brought a power policy with Rs. 35,000 crores. We have increased the installed capacity from 7,000 megawatts to 18,000 megawatts. We make Hyderabad a power island city. We have supplied electricity for 8 years without a blink of an eye. We have provided the facility to generate 5600 megawatts of power,” he explained.
He flagged that the present government does not have the wisdom to use the existing electricity. He said that generators, inverters and converters are again seen in Telangana. Who is responsible for frequent interruptions in power supply? Why so much chaos in 100 days? He asked. He criticized that this predicament was caused by the Congress rulers.
