Wifes of two prominent leaders, who are so far confined to their drawing rooms, are first time at the limelight before the nation, following the arrest of their husbands in ED cases. Incidentally, both of them were arrested while they were Chief Ministers of their respective states.
They are Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal and Jharkhand former chief minister Hemand Soren’s wife Kalpana Soren. Both these women are likely to be star personalities at the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc leaders’ rally, being held in Delhi on Sunday, protesting against the AAP national convener Kejriwal’s arrest.
Sunita Kejriwal is in the forefront of protests and has held pressers thrice to convey the messages sent by Kejriwal from the ED custody to the people. She also released two WhatsApp numbers for the public to directly connect with people against the CM’s arrest. Now, Kalpana Soren too joined her.
Kalpana Soren met jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal here on Saturday, and expressed a mutual resolve to take far their fight. She met Sunita Kejriwal at Delhi Chief Minister’s residence on 6 Flagstaff Road.
“I came here to share the sorrow and pain of Sunita ji. She narrated her plight. We both have pledged that this fight has to be taken very far. Entire Jharkhand stands with Arvind Kejriwal,” Kalpana told reporters after the meeting.
She said what happened in Jharkhand two months ago was replicated in Delhi and the situation was the same at both the places. “My husband Hemant ji was sent to jail and Arvind Kejriwal sir is also in custody. The situation of Jharkhand and Delhi is the same,” she added.
Kalpana said she will also meet senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and tell her about the situation in Jharkhand. Hemant Soren is behind bars after his arrest in January by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam in Jharkhand.
Top opposition leaders of the country, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Sharad Pawar are joining the mega rally. Other prominent faces, which will join the rally are Trichy Shiva, Derek O’Brian, Tejashwi Yadav, Uddhav Thackeray, Sitaram Yechury, D Raja, Farooq Abdullah, Dipankar Bhattarcharya, Champai Soren and G Devaraja.
