In a setback to ruling YSRCP, after denying ticket again, Nandikotkur MLA Arthur Thoguru resigned from the ruling party and joined Congress party on Tuesday, in the presence of APCC president YS Sharmila. She welcomed him into the party.
Arthur won in the 2019 elections, by over 38,691 votes majority, against TDP’s Bandi Jayaraj. However, he has been complaining of domination of leaders from Reddy community in the constituency, denying him protocol even in official programmes. Moreover, things went into trouble when YS Jaganmohan Reddy appointed Dr Sudheer Dhara as Nandikotkur incharge earlier this year.
It was rumoured that Arthur’s differences with Byreddy Siddharth Reddy resulted in him losing the Nandikotkur ticket. He alleged that though in a survey conducted by the party though most of the people preferred his name, due to local politics in the party he was denied a seat.
Disappointed with YCP’s decision, Arthur resigned from the party a month ago. Later, it was assumed that he may join TDP or Jana Sena. However, Arthur finally chose to join the Congress. He will be the candidate of Congress in the Nandikotkur constituency in the upcoming general elections.
Byreddy Siddareddy has emerged as a key leader in the constituency. As it is a reserved constituency, the party is fielding some SC candidate in the polls, he is enjoying real power and all the officers are attending to him only.
