At least forty schools in Delhi received bomb threats via emails early Monday. These include Delhi Public School in RK Puram, GD Goenka in Paschim Vihar, Mother Mary’s school in Mayur Vihar, The British School in Chanakyapuri, Salwan Public School in Mayur Vihar, Modern School in Mandi House, Cambridge School, Delhi Public School in Vasant Kunj, a few DAVs, besides others.
School administrations sent children back to their homes. According to Delhi Police, cops and the fire brigade were informed about the threat at 7 am this morning. The threat email was received at 11 pm last night, with the sender demanding a ransom of USD 30,000. The threat warned of bombs hidden inside several school buildings, and claimed that if the ransom was not paid, the bombs would detonate, causing injuries to those present.
School authorities informed the parents to bring their kids back to their homes. The Police and bomb disposal squad checked the premises of both schools and so far no objectionable object was found on the spot.
The series of threats first began with RK Puram’s Delhi Public School and Paschim Vihar’s GD Goenka School. Police said that DPS received the threat at 7:06 am, while the latter got the email at 6:15 am.
The threat email read, “I planted multiple bombs inside (school) buildings. Meanwhile, the school administration took prompt action and sent the students back home.
A police official said that so far nothing suspicious has been found at DPS and GD Goenka.This incident comes just a week after Rohini’s Venkateshwar Global School received a bomb threat via email, which later turned out to be a hoax.
A day earlier, a low-intensity blast had taken place in Prashant Vihar, within a one-kilometer range of the school. Parents had been immediately informed of the situation and students were sent home. Notably, two months ago, several CRPF schools across the national capital and the country had received bomb threats via email.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, talking to X, expressed her concerns about the law and order situation in the Capital, citing the bomb threats received by the schools. She wrote: “After the daily incidents of ransom, murders, firing in Delhi, now threats of bombing of schools are being received. The law and order situation in Delhi has never been so bad before. The BJP-ruled central government has failed in its only task of providing security to the people of Delhi…”
Meanwhile, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal also hit out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for “such a bad state of law and order” in Delhi. Over a post on X, Kejriwal wrote: “The people of Delhi have never seen such a bad state of law and order in Delhi before. Amit Shah ji should come and answer the people of Delhi.”
